Aberteifi Tigers finish 2013 season with invite to Wales Rally GB

A report from the Greenpower finals

aberteifi-tigers1“The 2013 season drew to a wet & windy close at Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit last weekend. After 2 top ten finishes in the regional heats, the team were hoping to achieve a solid top 10 place out of the 75 starting teams. The day proved to be wet and windy with many cars suffering punctures and spins on the very wet track. The race started well with the car and drivers circulating at the planned pace. Unfortunately half way in to the 4 hour race, a wet and faulty throttle switch meant the car arrived back in the pits on the recovery vehicle. The car was repaired and the remaining drivers put in good lap times but the team finished mid-table, but despite this the team remain upbeat and all enjoyed the season finale. They will now be focussing on the completion of their new car, which will be ready for the 2014 season starting in June. The Greenpower final is an event which is growing in stature each year, with teams competing this year from all over the UK as well as Poland and USA. Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi still remain the only team competing from Wales. Greenpower are working hard to try to increase the number of schools participating next year. Many large motoring and engineering companies were present at the final and over 10,000 people attended the day.

As the success of the team grows more people are interested in finding out about what the after school engineering club and the Greenpower competition are all about. At Goodwood we were approached with an invitation to display the car at the opening event in Llandudno of Wales Rally GB on the 14th November alongside the Welsh Solar Car Team, Team Gwawr. The team have also been invited to attend the Rhosygilwen Classic Car show on the 27th October and the launch of Western Solar’s Ty Solar. Telling other young people about our engineering efforts has always been a priority and we are looking forward to showing off the excellent efforts the team have made over the last 3 years. The team would like to thank all their local sponsors and helpers for their support over the 2013 season.”
