Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency in housing is key to our design. Good energy efficiency not only saves us money but also saves the planet by reducing carbon emissions. Our homes are south facing to maximise the energy from the sun with large windows giving us 80% of our space heating. We achieve the highest energy efficiency ratings with no compromises on insulation and the use of photo voltaic solar panels and intelligent electric heaters. Our Tesla Powerwall systems help you monitor your energy consumption.

One of the distinctive features of a Ty Solar home is the sense of well being when you enter one. Maximising the use of natural light enhancing that sense. We don’t use oil-based paints or adhesives thereby reducing the carcinogens in the rooms.

Loving the Earth

The construction industry is responsible for over 40% of global emissions of CO2. All Ty Solar Homes have a low embodied carbon content, being made of timber which is locally sourced from sustainable woodlands. In addition, each home has its own mini power station producing carbon-free energy at the point of consumption. We estimate that a Ty Solar home avoids up to 254 metric tonnes of carbon equivalent. We’re on a journey to build 1000 homes equivalent to the benefit of planting 250,000 trees.
